Let’s face it—feeling stuck is frustrating. You’ve worked hard, but the recognition, promotion, or next opportunity you’ve been waiting for just hasn’t materialized. You’re not alone.
I see this all the time: talented, driven professionals spinning their wheels, wondering why they can’t seem to break through. But here’s the thing—getting unstuck isn’t about working harder. It’s about working smarter. And that starts with clarity and action.
I once worked with a client—let’s call her Sarah—who was at her wit’s end. She’d been in the same role for years, watching others get promoted while her feedback was always frustratingly vague: “You’re doing great, but we need you to be more strategic.”
What did that even mean? No one could tell her. Sarah was doing everything right—or so she thought. But she was so busy executing that she didn’t realize she wasn’t showing up as a leader.
We started by creating clarity. Where did she want to go in her career? What kind of leader did she want to be? Once we had her vision, we broke it into tangible milestones and specific actions that demonstrated strategic thinking—like aligning her work with broader business goals and finding opportunities to lead cross-functional projects.
Six months later, Sarah wasn’t just promoted—she was spearheading initiatives that made her the go-to person for her boss’s most important projects. What changed? She stopped waiting for direction and took ownership of her career.
Sarah’s story isn’t unique. The problem isn’t talent—it’s clarity. When you’re clear about where you’re going and intentional about how to get there, everything changes.
That’s why I use the L.E.A.D. framework to help leaders like Sarah break through stagnation. Let me give you a sneak peek:
L = Lean: Start with vision and strategy. What’s your big-picture goal?
E = Empower: Focus on learning through action. What experiments can you run to test your ideas and grow?
A = Amplify: Strengthen your people, processes, and culture. How are you inspiring and supporting others?
D = Durability: Build resilience. How are you balancing executive presence with long-term sustainability?
In Sarah’s case, she focused on Lean and Amplify—aligning her work with strategy and amplifying her leadership by mentoring peers and taking on visible projects.
The key takeaway? Action beats frustration. But it has to be the right action, tied to a clear vision.
